Amenfi Central: Independent Candidate steps down to support NDC’s Joana Cudjoe

One of the Two Independent Candidates in the Amenfi Central Parliamentary Race, Dr. Karl Mark Arhin, Officially Withdraws to Support Joana Gyan Cudjoe

One of the two independent candidates in the Amenfi Central parliamentary race, Dr. Karl Mark Arhin, has officially withdrawn his candidacy to support Joana Gyan Cudjoe of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Dr. Arhin, who will now serve as her campaign manager, made the announcement just days after the Sekondi High Court lifted the injunction that had temporarily barred Cudjoe from contesting.

Addressing supporters at a rally in Kyeikrom on November 16, alongside NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Dr. Arhin clarified that his independent bid was a temporary measure to safeguard the NDC’s presence in the race amid Cudjoe’s legal challenges.

“I contested as an independent candidate only in Joana Gyan Cudjoe’s absence. Now that she is back, I encourage everyone to vote for her as she is the right person for our constituency. My household and I will vote for her and John Dramani Mahama. Although my picture is on the ballot, I am no longer a candidate,” he stated.

The NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, commended Dr. Arhin for his loyalty, emphasizing that his independent candidacy was sanctioned by the party to ensure the NDC remained competitive during the legal proceedings.

“The NDC leadership strategically supported Dr. Arhin’s independent bid to counter attempts by the NPP to block our representation through the court case. With the injunction now lifted, Dr. Arhin has gracefully stepped aside to fully support Joana as her campaign manager,” he said.

Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, expressed her gratitude to Dr. Arhin and the party supporters.

“Today is a joyful day for Amenfi Central and Ghana. I thank everyone for their support during these challenges. On election day, remember my position is number two on the ballot. Let’s vote for me and John Mahama to secure victory for the NDC,” she urged.
