I will like to take advantage of this historic event at the launch of the National Cocoa Rehabilitation program to announce a new cocoa price for our farmers for the coming 2020/2021 season. The current 2019/2020 producer price of Ghc8420 per metric tonnes ie Ghc514 per bag was an 8.2% increase over the 2018/2019 price of Ghc7615 that is Ghc475 per bag. Nananom, beginning on 1st October 2020 this year, I’m happy to announce the award of a new cocoa producer price of Ghc10,560 per metric tonnes which is Ghc660 per bag for the coming 2020/2021 cocoa season,” the President stated.

Elated cocoa farmers who had gathered at the event could not hide their joy as they expressed their gratitude to the President.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has had a negative impact on everything. But in spite of the difficulty, the President directed that Ghanaians should use water and electricity for free for many months. He’s now pleasantly shocked us by increasing cocoa prices for us. This is indeed a good leader who deserves another term in office to continue with the developmental agenda that he’s started. But we the farmer have one more request to the President, we appeal to him to ensure that more fertilizers are distributed to farmers as many of the farmers did not get their share,” one farmer stated.
