A group of fisher folks from the Western Region has asked former President John Mahama to clarify some corruption allegations including the Airbus Bribery scandal leveled against him.

Speaking on behalf of the fishermen who paid a courtesy call on Mr Mahama at his office on Wednesday, the Lower Axim Chief fisherman, Nana Kofi Bentil said this will arm them to defend his reputation which is being damaged by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“They [NPP] want to confuse us with this Airbus scandal which is very disturbing. Because they want Ghanaians to forget about the missing excavators and the missing tricycles. So we want you to clarify the issue so that when we are arguing we can argue very well,” he stated.

The NPP last week alleged that former President Mahama was “Government official 1” after a report from British Serious Fraud Office (SFO) following investigations into the Europe’s largest aircraft manufacturer, Airbus, revealed the company engaged in bribery and failed to prevent corruption in transactions in 20 countries, including Ghana.

The Lower Axim Chief fisherman, however, noted that the purpose of their visit was to assure the flagbearer of the NDC that they would vote for him in the upcoming general elections.

“We do not know anyone except you because you listen to us whenever we call on you, so we are here to tell you that you have our full support in the 2020 polls,” he stressed.

Mr Bentil indicated that the former President Mahama is a listening president and should he return to power, they know all their problems will be attended to.

He, therefore, called on all fishermen in Ghana to vote for the NDC party in the next election urging his colleagues that “we should all go and spread the word of the benefits we will have should former President Mahama return to power come January 7, 2021.”
