Afro-Arab Microfinance, a subsidiary of the Afro-Arab Group of Companies, has been honoured as the Best Microfinance Company in Ghana at the 2025 Global Banking & Finance Review Awards, a prestigious international platform that celebrates excellence in the financial services industry.

The award ceremony, held in London, United Kingdom, brought together global banking and finance leaders, institutions, and innovators. The event recognized outstanding performers who have demonstrated innovation, leadership, and a commitment to economic empowerment, especially in developing economies.

Afro-Arab Microfinance received the accolade for its impactful initiatives in women and youth empowerment, a core part of its corporate mission. The company has become a beacon of inclusive financial services in Ghana, dedicated to transforming lives through accessible micro-lending, entrepreneurial support, and community development.

Speaking after receiving the award, Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu, the Board Chairman and Founder of Afro-Arab Microfinance, expressed deep gratitude to the organizers for the international recognition.

“First of all, on behalf of the management, I would like to say a big thank you to the Almighty Allah for making this possible, and secondly to the organizers for the recognition,” he said. “This means a lot to us as a company. It’s a testimony that our work in empowering women and the youth is not going unnoticed.”

The Global Banking & Finance Review Awards, established in 2011 by the UK-based financial publication Global Banking & Finance Review (GB&FR), has grown into one of the industry’s most respected accolades. The awards celebrate institutions that drive progress across areas such as financial inclusion, fintech innovation, sustainable banking, and customer service.

Afro-Arab Microfinance was selected for its robust financial literacy programs, strategic support to female-led businesses, and youth entrepreneurship schemes. Over the years, the institution has become a key player in addressing financial gaps in underprivileged communities across Ghana.

Mr Ebenezer Egyir Tetteh, General Manager of Afro-Arab Microfinance, also spoke on the company’s recent milestones and future direction.

“We’ve embarked on several transformative projects to uplift underserved populations. From microloans tailored to women traders to mentorship programs for the youth, our goal is to break barriers and enable self-sufficiency,” he said. “Afro-Arab Microfinance will continue to stand firm in its vision to empower women and the teeming youth.”

He further expressed appreciation to the company’s loyal customer base, describing their support as instrumental to the growth and success of the organization.

“We sincerely thank our customers for their unflappable support over the years. Without them, this achievement would not have been possible,” Mr Tetteh added.

Founded over a decade ago, Afro-Arab Microfinance has established itself as one of Ghana’s leading microfinance institutions with a strong community focus. Through partnerships, field programs, and grassroots engagements, it has supported thousands of small businesses, especially in urban and peri-urban areas. The company’s model combines traditional financial services with modern innovations in mobile banking and financial education, ensuring wide accessibility and sustainable impact.

The recognition from GB&FR highlights Afro-Arab Microfinance’s commitment to aligning with global best practices while maintaining strong community roots.
