Ademola Lookman gets Ballon d’Or nomination, only African star in top 30

Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has been nominated for the 2024 Ballon d’Or award.

The 26-year-old is the only African star shortlisted in the top 30 nominees by the French Football Magazine.

The Nigerian international had a stellar campaign last season, helping Atalanta to their first European title after netting a stunning hat-trick in the Europa League final.

Lookman became the first player to achieve this remarkable feat, as his hat-trick earned him his first-ever career silverware, as Atalanta ended Bayer Leverkusen’s astonishing unbeaten run at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

The former Leicester City loanee registered 17 goals and 10 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

Real Madrid’s duo Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham and Manchester City’s Rodri are the favourites to win the coveted prize.
