Dormaa circuit court jails salesgirl for stealing GH¢21,787

The Circuit Court in Dormaa-Ahenkro, Bono Region, has sentenced Laadi Sulemana, a salesgirl, to six months in prison for theft. During the hearing on Wednesday, Sulemana pleaded guilty to stealing GH¢21,787.00, and Justice Philomena Ansah Asiedu convicted her accordingly.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Emmanuel Asare informed the court that the complainant, Beatrice Asante Adjei, a member of the Ghana National Fire Service residing in Dormaa-Ahenkro, accused Sulemana, a native of Bawku living in the town.

Adjei operates a store selling poultry products near the old lorry station, where Sulemana was employed as a salesgirl.

On January 23, 2024, Adjei discovered a shortfall in poultry concentrates totaling GH¢21,245.00. Upon confronting Sulemana, she claimed the product had been sold on credit to a customer. However, when Adjei contacted the customer, they denied purchasing any product on credit, the prosecution stated.

Further, on February 9, 2024, Adjei found that Sulemana had sold an additional six bags of concentrate valued at GH¢5,452.00 but failed to account for the sales. “The convict later claimed she sold the products on credit to one Kobby, a poultry farmer in Wamfie, who has since traveled abroad,” Inspector Asare relayed to the court.

Adjei reported the incident to the Dormaa-Ahenkro police, leading to Sulemana’s arrest. During interrogation, Sulemana confessed to the crime.
