GNPC saga: Publish all evaluation reports on GHCL property – Bawa demands
The Member of Parliament for Bongo, Edward Bawa says he is not seeking to attack anybody in the GNPC Purchase of the Global Haulage Company (GHCL) property, but wants more clarity to the conflicting accounts given by GNPC.
Bawa has argued for the sake of public interest and transparency, the supposed 2 evaluations done by AESL and Nana Kumi and Associates must be published, adding “because we’re aware that is evaluation board that does evaluation. AESL’s mandate is not on evaluation.
The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) says it acquired its residential properties in Takoradi in a transparent manner devoid of any conflict of interest.
In statement issued in Accra by Corporate Affairs Department, the GNPC said in 2017, a search for suitable office and residential accommodation for staff in Sekondi-Takoradi became necessary and was initiated, following a decision to relocate GNPC’s operations to the Western Region.
It said towards this end, the needed funding was provided in the 2017 Budget of the Corporation.
It said the Board of Directors of GNPC decided to purchase property instead of renting and accordingly, the Board of Directors set up a Committee comprising some of its members and management to identify and negotiate the purchase of suitable property.
“The Chief Executive, Dr K.K. Sarpong was not part of the Committee,” it added.
The statement said the property offered by Global Haulage Company Limited (GHCL) was selected for purchase after reviewing other offers.
But speaking on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM Friday, Bawa said perusing the memo and the Payment Authorisation Voucher making the rounds it’s abundantly clear that things don’t add up asking the Corporation to give further and better particulars about the deal.
“I’m not attacking anybody. By the way, the details are not out yet as to who actually was involved in these things. And so just as we said, we need more explanations to this. We need GNPC to begin to start talking now and also the Ministry of Energy which is a superintending Ministry over this particular body to start talking to us. We need investigations into this matter and the full facts made public. This is our oil money and so it’s only fair that we get full explanations because from what we are seeing from the documents, we need to interrogate the matter very well,” he said.
According to him, the issue of Conflict of Interest becomes even more evident considering that since Dr. K.K Sarpong became the MD of GNPC, the Corporation has engaged GHCL for 2 of their properties at different times.
