A socio-political group in the Southeast zone, Abia Rejoice Movement (ARM), on Thursday, cleared the air on its position ahead of this Saturday’s Governorship and state house of assembly elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abia state.
Recall that INEC had early 2022 officially announced March 11th 2023 for the conduct of the Governorship and state house of assembly elections but later, shifted the state elections to March 18th.
The nation’s electoral commission disclosed the postponement was due to the inability of the commission to commence the re-configuration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines used for the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections, to enable their use for the state elections.
Earlier, the Abia Rejoice Movement, while disclosing its stand on the backdrops of the Saturday’s Abia governorship elections which contained in a statement issued on Thursday night by Mr Chima Obiwuru of its media and publicity, threw its full weight support behind the Gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party(LP) in Abia state, Dr Alex Chioma Otti.
It maintained Otti stands tall among the candidates of different other politcal parties jostling for the upcoming Abia 2023 Governorship seat elections to be conducted across all the polling units in 184 electoral wards of the seventeen (17) local government areas in Abia state by the nation’s electoral body.
Words: “Amongst the list of qualified candidates seeking to become the next Governor of Abia state, Dr Alex Chioma Otti stands atop and most qualified, hence we endorsed him”.
The Abia umbrella body recalled that its founder and the former minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Uche Sampson Ogah as a result of the clarion call a few years ago by well meaning Abians and on personal conviction, offered purposeful leadership joined partisan politics, but regrettably, he was schemed out for 2023 Gubernatorial election by forces within and outside the state.
“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he standsat times of challenge and controversy”, Martin Luther King Jr.
“The overall interest of Abians is more paramount to us and our leader, the Doyen of Abia Rejoice, Dr Uche Sampson Ogah and his interest in politics is not for personal gains but for the betterment of Abia and Nigeria at large”.
The Abia socio-political group noted that people of the state are in dire need of a pragmatic and vision driven leader and not a puppet, stooge or a proxy governor.
“Above all, Abia people needs a trained, tested and trusted independent minded governor and not one who will be subject to the manipulation of few greedy and selfish career politicians,”It further added.
The Abia Rejoice Movement further noted that having weighed all the governorship contestants in the state, the Governorship flagbearer of the Labour Party, Alex Otti is most credible with verifiable evidence of performance to lead Abia at this auspicious time.
According to Otti, “he earned our endorsement on merit to lead Abia state at this special time in our democratic and political history of Abia state”.
The organization therefore urged the people of Abia state and the general public to vote for Dr Alex Otti of the Labour Party for Governor come Saturday march 18th, 2023.
