Abedi Pele, Basintale, Ayariga: Prominent personalities spotted at 2025 President’s Cup

In the political space, high profile individuals such as Majority Leader in Parliament Mahama Ayariga, Ashanti Regional Minister Stephen Amoako; Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Akweley Ocloo; Youth Employment Agency boss Malik Basintale; Okaikwei South MP Adomako Ernest, Deputy Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) CEO, Abeiku Santana, and Dr Omane Boamah were present.

In the sports sector, legendary footballers like Abedi Ayew Pele and Stephen Appiah, former Chairman of Accra Hearts of Oak Dr Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe, and CEO of Legacy Rise Sport Sharaf Mahama, legendary boxer Azumah Nelson, NSA boss Yaw Ampofo Ankrah and others were in attendance.

Some prominent figures from the entertainment sector were also present, including Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, Kweku Smoke, and Camidoh.

Notably, President John Dramani Mahama chaired the occasion and received massive cheers from the fans as the match was scheduled to honour him.

About the match:

Kotoko extended their dominance as the most successful club in the history of the President’s Cup on Sunday, July 6, 2025, beating Hearts of Oak 2-1 to claim their ninth trophy.

Hamza Issah opened the scoring for Hearts of Oak in the first half, capitalising on a mistake by goalkeeper Mohamed Camara.

However, Kotoko responded strongly in the second half. Defender Konadu Yiadom turned a cross into his own net to level the score for the Porcupine Warriors.

Moments later, Kwame Opoku punished poor defending with a simple finish to make it 2-1.

After the victory on , Kotoko have now won the President’s Cup nine times: in 1973, 1984, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2025.
