A/R: Violence erupts as Chief DEMOLISHES 27 New Buildings over owners’ disrespect of palace permit ‘tradition’

Residence at Feyiase, a suburb of the Kumasi in the Ashanti Region are up in arms with their chief and have vowed to chase him out of the palace over a recent demolition exercise amidst other autocratic decisions he has taken without consulting them.

They expressed concerns in a protest against their chief, Nana Addai Dwamena over unlawful demolishing of buildings in the community, a move they say is contrary to customs and traditions of the community vowing to throw him out of the palace if he fails to change.

“We the entire people of Feyiease wish to inform everyone that Nana Addai Dwamena, Feyieasehene’s decisions are against our customs and traditions and we do not agree…”, they stated during the protest covered by MyNewsGh.com

The residents claim that the Feyieasehene takes decisions without any consultation from his Sub chiefs as a result of lack of respect and have therefore petitioned Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to call him to order or they do that themselves.

“We are humbly appealing to Asantehene, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to call our chief to order or else we do it ourselves” they threatened.

Revealing what broke the camel’s back, they stated that a week ago, he demolished 27 buildings in the community with the explanation that they were built without his authority hence his decision to have them grounded.

The residents during a protest stressed that Feyieasehene’s family members have taken over all social amenities in the community including public toilets and running them as their private investments

“They take sales of water from all the taps and the proceeds of toilets without accounting to us meanwhile those monies are supposed to settle charges of street light”, they complained during a street protest.

People of Feyiease further revealed that Nana Addai Dwamena has dissolved the Unit Committee of the community stating “we think it is a breach of the 1992 constitution which established the formation of unit committees in every community”.

They also complained their chief has ordered the removal of all container shops without a cause and when persons who dared approach him about his decisions were victimized.

Nana Addai Dwamena declined to comment on the development when reached.
