A/R: Patients at Asuofua Health Center receive treatment on the floor, benches and plastic chairs
Congestion at the Asuofua Health Center is in the Atwima Nwabiagya North in the Ashanti Region is forcing authorities to attend to patients on admission on the floor, benches and plastic chairs.
In some instances patients are forced to share beds in order to be attended to because the facility has only 6 beds for this purpose for men, women and children who require detention in view of their condition each time they visit the facility.
Pure Fm’s Osei Kwadwo who has been following the unfortunate development at the facility, revealed that it is only capable of admitting 10 patients depending on the seriousness of their conditions and in cases where they have no option, are compelled to admit but treat them on the bare floor, benches or plastic chairs.
Asuofua Health Centre serves at least fifteen communities in the district including; Atafoa, Ohwim, Amanfrom, Asamang, Achiase, Amoamang, Esaso, Bohyen, Kronum, Fufuo, Abrepo, Darbaa among others.
Patients reveal that though doctors and nurses at Asuofua health centre are very good, they feel uncomfortable anytime they go for medical treatment at the facility for fear they could contract other diseases in the process.
According to them, the situation where 2 patients have to sleep on 1 bed to receive medical treatment is much of a worry to them calling on authorities to resolve the infrastructure deficit in the area
“The situation is very pathetic. We normally go home with different diseases after being admitted at the hospital. The ward is very congested. The situation is very disheartening” they lamented.
A Senior Physician at the Asuofua Health Centre, Dr. Peter Kwame Fosu said the challenges facing the health centre includes the lack of transport especially an ambulance, inadequate furniture for staff and visitors who visit the centre, lack of hospital beds and inadequate nurses he observed are affecting the smooth running of the facility.
He called on the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Nwabiagya North Rebecca Yeboah and authorities at the hospital put measures in place to address the challenges confronting the facility before things get out of hand.
