A/R: Newly completed Police Station left to rot at Krobo Odumasi

Two years after the construction of the Krobo Odumasi Police Station in the Manhyia South Constituency of the Ashanti Region, the facility has been left idle and deteriorating very fast because it is not being used.

This comes in the wake of increasing robberies and other criminal activities in the area with residents complaining that they are living in fear and wish the facility is used for its intended purpose.

The police station was initiated by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) in 2012 was completed in 2016 with the sole aim of tackling robbery and criminal cases at Krobo Odumasi and its environs with police presence

Ever since its completion, the facility is not being used for the intended purpose with the explanation that the road in front of it is dusty.

During a visit to the police station by MyNewsGh.com, it looked unkempt with dust despite some furniture and other fittings that had been fixed in it for use.

Traders have turned the premises of the police station to market while market vehicles load goods right in front of the facility.

According to them, nefarious activities by armed robbers and criminals are getting out of hand saying they are being attacked every day.

“We were excited when the Assembly started building the police station because the police station was a solution to the problem we are facing. The project was completed since 2016 but not even a single police officer is here. Robbers are tormenting our lives. The police should come and protect us by using the facility” they said.

Some market women complained they are losing their capital due to rampant robbery attacks on them.

Lydia Oforiwaa who is a plantain seller said she was attacked by 3 boys wielding weapons.

“I was coming to the market around 5:30am on that very day to give plantains to my customers. On my way coming I saw 3 young boys with guns and knives and they told me to give them my bag and my phone else they will kill me. I gave my bag and my phone to them and they left. I was having GHc300 inside the bag” she said.

A station Master Mr. Francis Anokye disclosed that last week a boy was stabbed to death near the police station by armed robbers.

Mr. Anokye however appealed to the Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Kwesi Mensah Duku to commission the police station with immediate effect and deploy his men to the facility.
