The new Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kwesi Mensa Duku, has promised to drastically deal with land guards and armed robbers in that part of the country.

According to the commander, both static and mobile patrol activities will be intensified while new police stations are opened in developing areas.

Speaking at his maiden media encounter at the regional headquarters in Kumasi on Wednesday, 20 June 2018, DCOP Kwesi Mensa Duku promised to build on his predecessor’s foundation to create conducive and a peaceful environment for socio-economic development.

Neighbourhood watch committees, he said, will be revamped to augment the efforts of the police in the fight against armed robbery since the region, according to the 2011 census, has a population of 4,780,380 against 4,497 police officers.

Mr Doku also pleaded with the public to furnish the police with credible information in their efforts to deal with crime.

He advised that information should be released to commanders in the police administration rather than the junior officers.

DCOP Duku said several complaints have been received about some junior officers going round and disclosing informants to the public, a practice he condemned.

Touching on traffic flow, DCOP Doku said his men have been tasked to clear all unapproved transport terminals and also move all cars parked on the shoulders of the roads in the Kumasi metropolis to allow free flow of traffic.
