The Ministry of Youth and Sports is set to cut the salary of Black Stars coach, C.K Akonnor.
“….we cannot give him a full salary in the COVID-19 era,” Asiamah told Asempa FM Tuesday.
He said the ministry is “waiting for a response from the FA.”
The Football Association, he said, is in talks with the coach who has “agreed in principle to accept a salary cut. It is left with the FA to come out with the modalities for us to pay him.”
Akonnor who was appointed in January is yet to receive any salary from the ministry after almost nine months. The ministry has said it is prepared to pay him the arrears.
“I have told the coach to accept a salary cut in the COVID-19 period before we pay him,” Isaac Asiamah said, explaining the pandemic has affected the finances of the ministry.
Since taking up the job, Akonnor has been trying to beef up the current squad with more foreign-born players of Ghanaian descent.
Akonnor revealed that his meeting with such players during his Europe tour shows many of such players are willing to make a national team switch.
Among the tall list of players, he is considering include Anderlecht youngster Jeremy Doku; French-born, Elisha Owusu; and Tarique Fosu who was handed his debut call-up in March.
His first assignment in charge of the Black Stars is an upcoming friendly with Algeria and Mali next month.
Akonnor was in the news recently when he announced his team leadership, Andre Ayew was maintained captain with Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey and Richard Ofori getting deputy captain appointments.
