Contract workers’ strike threat unwarranted – NIA CEO
The CEO of the National Identification Authority (NIA) Professor Kenneth Attafuah has said the threat by some contract workers of the company over non-payment of allowances is in bad faith.
About 300 contract staff of NIA who were engaged for the Ghana Card special registration exercise have threatened to embark on strike over unpaid allowances.
They say the Authority owes them salaries for at least two months.
Some of the agitated workers told Citi News that several attempts to get the authorities to pay them have been unsuccessful.
But speaking to Citi News, later on, Prof. Attafuah said concerns over non-payment of allowances had not even been brought to his attention.
“No one has brought any such concerns to my attention and I think it is unfair, it is rude, it is inappropriate and it is indecent so I don’t welcome it.”
In addition, some workers have not submitted some official documentation.
“When I checked with my Head of Finance, only some of them had submitted their letters. Only some of them have provided their bank account details,” Prof. Attafuah retorted.
He added that some of the contract workers provided information that “is riddled with inaccuracies.”
Following the complaints, he directed that persons with the necessary documentation be paid.
“I have however directed this morning that all those individuals whose details are complete that they should be paid forthwith.”
