Kpandai SHS Students clash with school authorities, police over seizure of phones

Students of Kpandai senior high school (SHS) have clashed with school authorities and the District Police Command after the school’s Headmaster, Mugisu Abubakari confiscated over 100 phones of some students.

Adom News’ Job Odehyeba Owusu who was at the scene said the headmaster initially asked the students to voluntarily hand over their phones and promised to give them back after they are done with their final exams.

But no one did, so he embarked on an aggressive inspection which led to the seizure of over 100 phones.

The action, however, infuriated the students so they boycotted classes and started destroying school properties, hence, police reinforcement was called to restore calm.

When the Kpandai District Police Commander, DSP Bernard Nugan and his team arrived, students pelted them with stones and other objects which injured about six personnel including the Commander.

The Kpandai District Peace Council was subsequently called to intervene.

And due to the intervention, over 65 phones were voluntarily submitted to the school’s management.

Speaking to the students, Council’s Chairman, Yaw Lenteh urged the students never to repeat the occurrence and adopt good behaviour as they are left with just a month to complete school.

On his part, the Church of Pentecost Head for Kpandai District, Francis Kwame Amewondey commended students for heeding to advice.

“This goes a long way to tell us that you are becoming good citizens of our nation,” he said.

He added, “Don’t see any teacher or master to be against you. They all have your good interest at heart.”

Speaking on behalf of the students, the Senior Prefect said they regret their actions and promised never to repeat it again.

“We have realised the phone is doing us more harm than good. so we pledge that we will never use phones on campus until we are done with all our papers.”
