The Ghana High Commission in Nigeria has sent out a notification that all stranded Ghanaians willing to return must pay a fee to assist their evacuation to Ghana tomorrow – Tuesday, June 2, 2020.

The fee ranges from US$800-1,000 from Abuja to Accra, and US$700-900 from Lagos to Accra.

Per a letter from the High Commission sighted by this Paper, all interested persons must also pay for a mandatory 14-day quarantine at selected hotels in the country before they are allowed to be evacuated from Nigeria.

The hotels range from 2-star to 5-star with a cost range of GH¢7,700 to GH¢9,800. The Mission has arranged a chartered flight with Africa World Airlines (AWA) for the proposed evacuation.

The Ghana Health Service has indicated that some of the deportees have tested positive for COVID-19, as tests are still ongoing for the entire batch.

They were taken through arrival procedures by officials of the Ghana Immigration Service and screened by health personnel. They are currently undergoing a 14-day mandatory quarantine at designated hotels under heavy security and screened by health personnel.
