Asawase youth assault EIB cameraman

A cameraman of EIB Network’s GHOne TV has allegedly been assaulted by some youth of Asawase in Kumasi in the Ashanti region.

The attack happened as Reynold Dadzie was filming the clashes that occurred between the irate youth and the police in the area Thursday.

According to reports, but for the timely intention of a resident, the reporter would have been lynched by the angry youth.

Dadzie is currently receiving treatment at the Ade3beba hospital in Kumasi. No arrest has been made by the Police. The Ghana Journalist Association has condemned the attack.

The youth are protesting the killing of some seven suspected robbers by the Police. They insist the deceased were not robbers as the Police claim. The ruling New Patriotic Party in the region has also waded in saying the victims were known party members and not criminals.

The Police have however justified their actions by exhibiting weapons retrieved from the deceased as they engaged them in a shootout resulting in their deaths.
