Buduburam: 7 minors arrested for prostitution

Seven girls between the ages of 12 and 15 years have been arrested for allegedly engaging in prostitution at Gomoa Buduburam in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

At night these girls parade the streets of the Buduburam camp selling their bodies to clients and offering sex in exchange for money and other benefits.

The development did not go down well with the Obaatanhene of Gomoa Buduburam, Nana Ekow Amoasi I, who is also a unit committee member.

He therefore, called for the arrest of the girls and seven of them were picked up on Tuesday 17 July, 2018.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Class 91.3 FM’s Central regional correspondent, Calvis Tetteh on Wednesday 18 July 2018, Obaatanhene Nana Amoasi I said: “Gradually Gomoa Buduburam is carving a niche for itself as a hub for nefarious activities such as gambling, prostitution, wee smoking and others.”

“The girls go and chase after men in the evening for sex and I have instructed that their cubicles be destroyed,” he said.

Nana Ekow Amoasi hinted that he will continue to go after criminals in the vicinity even if he has to do it alone because their activities are negatively affecting the neighbouring communities.

He complained about pressure on community facilities due to population increase highlighting that the clients of the sex workers come from other communities.

He said the girls are left on their own to cater for themselves when they become pregnant and give birth to children amidst difficulties to fend for themselves.
