Former National Security Adviser and an ex-serviceman, Brigadier (retired) Joseph Nunoo-Mensah has said that successive governments that have come after Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president have all performed abysmally.

He accused the current crop of political leaders in the country blaming both present and past governments (NDC, NPP) of doing little to ameliorate the living standard of Ghanaians.

According to Brigadier Nunoo-Mensah, since Nkrumah was overthrown, the country keeps retrogressing under all successive government with the exception of the late Prof. John Evans Atta Mills government which was later ruined by the ex-president Mahama when he (Mills) passes on whiles in office.

He was speaking in an up-close interview on the Happy Morning Show (HMS) on Happy 98.9FM.

“As a country, we are not managing our affairs properly. Kwame Nkrumah announced to the world that we can manage our affairs properly but we have failed to do so. I’m not being political, since Nkrumah was overthrown I have not seen any good government, when the good ones come in no time they get derailed. In fact, the entire system is in chaos whether in medical, food production, exploitation, etc I see chaos everywhere, “he said.

He added that “All the past presidents have performed abysmally. All the governments after Nkrumah from General Ankrah, Afrifa, to Kotoka have not done well for the country. Don’t let us put the blame on only the current government, all the past ones I have never been satisfied with any of them, President Mills may he rest in peace, as a politician you must come to power with a certain mindset, Nkrumah and Mills were different. Mills is like a pastor, we sit to have a chat. Mills never failed because he had people with brains around him but Mahama came and he pushed them all away and brought the young ones, kids don’t play football. The problem as a country we have then and now are similar and that our leaders have not performed properly.”

Nunoo-Mensah was very instrumental in the campaign of the opposition NDC in the December 2008 elections.

He was announced the Security Advisor to Prof. J Mills of the NDC when he won the 2008 polls.
