The bravery of a police officer has led to the arrest of one out of three suspected highway armed robbers who attacked a distribution van on the Bole- Bamboi highway in the Savannah Region on Friday afternoon, January 17, 2020.

The Police officer, General Lance (G/L) Corporal (cpl), Edmond Kyei Baffour was said to be escorting a Mercedes Benz distribution van with registration number GX 5225-17 from Banda Nkwanta to Tinga on the Bole-Bamboi highway when three masked armed men emerged from the bush and started firing at the van with an intention to rob it.

The policeman on board the van, which was transporting assorted soft drinks, returned fire and in the process, hit the right ankle of one of the suspected robbers, Seidu Salifu, 25, a Fulani herdsman and a resident of Bole.

Soon after Seidu was hit in the ankle, the police officer accosted him. However, his two other accomplices managed to escape.

The Savannah Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr Enoch Adutwum Bediako who disclosed this to Graphic Online said the police found a locally manufactured single barrel shot gun, one live cartridge, a face mask, a mobile phone and cash of GH¢130 on the suspected robber.

He said during interrogation, he mentioned one Sumalia and Elliasu, all residents of Bole as his accomplices.

DCOP Bediako said the suspect has been admitted at the Bole District hospital for treatment under police guard.

He appealed to the public to assist the police to arrest the other two suspected robbers, Sumaila and Elliasu, who are on the run.
