Stop using the Cedi because Akufo-Addo’s 3 relatives are on it – Abronye DC to NDC
The Chairman for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Bono Region, Kwame Baffoe popularly known as Abronye DC has chastised the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for engaging in an anti-nepotism campaign against President Akufo-Addo.
The NDC, on Tuesday November 5, 2019, claimed that President Akufo-Addo has turned his government into a family and friends affair
Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the party at a press conference, mentioned some 51 individuals who he claimed having close and direct relations with the President and have been appointed to positions in his administration.
He claimed “…among Akufo-Addo’s uncountable relatives in government is Nana Asante Bediatuo, his cousin, from Kyebi who serves as his Executive Secretary. Bediatuo is not alone! He is joined in government by his father, Kofi Darko Asante, who chairs the Governing Council of GIMPA, his mother, Mrs Vida Asante, who is the head of the Presidential Household and his brother, Kwesi Kuntu Asante, who sits on the Board of Ghana Hostels. In addition, Nana Asante Bediatuo’s sister, Lauretta Asante (marital name, Otchere), is one of the three Deputy Directors-General at SSNIT who have been appointed by this government”.
He added that “Other relatives of President Akufo-Addo who currently occupy various positions in his government include, Ken Ofori-Atta, Minister of Finance; Samuel Atta Akyea, Works and Housing Minister; and Kwesi Amoako Atta, Minister of Roads and Highways, all of whom are cousins of the President”.
Speaking to MyNewsGh.com, the controversial chairman wondered why the NDC would call out family relations of President, stating emphatically that the argument by the opposition party is baseless.
He told the NDC to desist from using Ghana’s currency because President Akufo-Addo has got three of his relatives embossed on the currency notes.
He quizzed “In these GH¢50 notes, we have JB Danquah, Edward Akufo Addo, William Ofori Atta; all relatives of President Akufo Addo. So, can we reject the money because its family and friends?”
Abronye DC said the most nepotistic Government in this country was John Mahama-led Government.
He fumed “If we are talking about nepotism, then it’s John Mahama who handed over Ghana’s bauxite deposit worth billions of dollars to his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, 44 cheques from his brother bounced and nothing was done about it whiles he was in government and that is even more serious…NDC did worst things whiles in government”.
The NPP executive was confident that President Akufo-Addo would not be destructed by the nepotism tag on him but continue to give Ghanaians an economic relief from the “mess” that the erstwhile Mahama government created.
