NDC Deputy Women’s Organiser Election Suspended in Nkwanta North Over Ballot Paper Discrepancy

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) election for the position of Deputy Women’s Organiser in the Nkwanta North constituency of the Oti Region was reportedly suspended on Saturday, October 24, 2026, following a disagreement over the order of candidates’ names on the ballot paper.

The suspension came after an aspirant, identified in reports as Victoria, raised concerns about an apparent discrepancy between the order established during the balloting process and the names printed on the ballot papers.

According to the reports, Victoria maintained that she had secured the first position during the official process to determine the order of candidates. However, she reportedly discovered that her opponent’s name appeared first on the printed ballot paper.

The discrepancy triggered concerns about the fairness of the process and prompted election officials to suspend the contest for the position while the matter was addressed.

The issue created uncertainty among aspirants and party members participating in the constituency elections, as the order of candidates on a ballot paper can become a point of contention when it differs from an agreed or officially determined arrangement.

The suspension was intended to allow the party to address the reported irregularity and prevent the disagreement from further disrupting the electoral exercise. Details of the final resolution and any revised arrangements for the affected position were not available in the reports reviewed.

The NDC was conducting constituency-level elections to select executives who will oversee party activities and strengthen its grassroots structures. The positions being contested form part of the party’s internal organisation and are important to mobilisation, coordination and communication with members at the local level.

Disputes over ballot papers and election procedures can affect confidence in internal party contests, particularly when candidates believe that established rules have not been followed. Clear communication from election officials and a transparent process for resolving complaints are therefore important in ensuring that aspirants and delegates have confidence in the outcome.

The Nkwanta North constituency has also been associated with a separate legal dispute involving a High Court injunction concerning the wider constituency elections and the delegates’ register. That matter is distinct from the reported disagreement over the order of candidates’ names on the ballot paper for the Deputy Women’s Organiser position.

The circumstances surrounding the ballot-paper discrepancy, including how the printed order differed from the reported balloting arrangement, require clarification from the party officials responsible for the election.

The suspension should not, on its own, be taken as proof of deliberate wrongdoing. Establishing whether an administrative error occurred and determining the appropriate remedy will depend on the evidence and the party’s applicable electoral procedures.

Further information from the NDC’s election officials is expected to clarify how the issue will be resolved and whether a new date or other arrangement will be announced for the affected contest.
