NDC and NPP operate like Mafia clans – Dr Yao Graham
The Executive Director of Third World Network has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress perform their functions when in government like ‘mafia’ clans.
According to Dr Yao Graham, there is lack of political claim and political legitimacy, therefore they are not committed to the transformational change of this country.
“To make it clear to you, I can say that we have two parties who operate in the manner of two clans who rule on behalf of themselves and their members. If you look at the history of the economy in the fourth republic, both parties have perpetuated the policies which have resulted us at where we are now.” He said to Francis Abban on Morning Starr on Starr Fm.
Dr. Graham also said that these political parties make big speeches which they do not take into action. Referring to them as the dominant political parties in the country, he also stated that they are only interested in surviving power and facilitating the accumulation of a small clique of people within this deformed economy that we have.
“These political parties do have the interest of the general public at heart. I don’t think they’ll be able to unite and come to a realization that they have to promote the economy of this country. When you listen to them, their debates are always on who has done worse, not who has done better. I think we need something coming out of the citizenry which begins to put pressure to transform the way the country is run because without that these two parties will not lead the country to where we want.” He said.
Dr Graham further expressed his thoughts on several issues that are causing damage to the country when he was asked about his opinion on the state of the country as we celebrate the Republic Holiday.
