Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been crowned Digital Leader of the Year at the 9th edition of Ghana Information Technology & Telecom Awards (GITTA) held in Accra on Friday, 28 June 2019.

It was organised by Instinct Wave.

The award ceremony was to recognise institutions and personalities that have embraced digitisation and introduced innovations designed to make delivery of services more efficient.

In his address, Dr Bawumia said the government will continue to partner fintechs and other stakeholders in the ICT industry to come up with technological solutions to the challenges facing the nation.

“Given the abundance of talent, I am confident that the quest to formalise the largely informal Ghanaian economy will be successful,” he stated.

Dr Bawumia advised the regulatory authorities against measures like deposit requirements that would stifle the innovation and growth of the fintechs.
