NLA Rolls Out VAG Lotto
The National Lottery Authority (NLA) in accordance with the agreement with Veterans Administration Ghana (VAG) is fully set to officially launch and operate VAG Lotto starting from the month of July 2019.
The operations of VAG Lotto will be very useful in addressing the issues of illegal lottery operations in Ghana.
Before the agreement with the Veterans Administration Ghana, most of the Private Lotto Operators and Agents were operating with a license granted under Act 844, a law which empowers the Veterans to engage in raffles or lottery to the benefit of its membership.
However, the NLA-VAG Partnership gives the National Lottery Authority the sole power to operate, manage and regulate VAG Lotto. The Veterans Administration Ghana (VAG) lacked the technology, infrastructure, machinery and resources to operate, manage and regulate VAG Lotto, and therefore were depending on third parties who were also abusing the lottery regulations and further impoverishing the Veterans. The license issued by VAG to the aforementioned Private Lotto Operators and Agents came to an end on November 2018.
It is important to state that, only duly licensed Lotto Marketing Companies and Private Lotto Operators and Agents would be allowed to participate in the VAG Lotto strictly in accordance with the terms and conditions as contained in their respective licenses.
Furthermore, necessary actions would be taken by the Authority to clump down on all unlicensed Lotto Operators and Agents across the country.
The VAG Lotto will bring an additional Revenue Stream to the Consolidated Fund as well as ensure the creation of over 20,000 jobs directly and indirectly.
