A 47-year-old man has been reported dead after an explosion at a gas filling station.
The incident occurred at the Runel Filling Station at New Dawhenya near Tema in the Greater Accra Region.
The explosion was said to have happened in one of the rooms housing the staff of the filling station where the deceased, Anthony Ahiabu was cooking while Liquefied Petroleum Gas was being discharged into a reservoir at the station.
His corpse has been deposited at the Tema General Hospital morgue in Accra for autopsy and preservation.
Frank Asare, an eyewitness told DGN online that the incident occurred at about 5:00 am while a gas tanker was discharging liquefied petroleum gas at the station.
The eyewitness suspect, emissions from the gas discharge spread in the area and sparked fire amidst minor explosion after coming in contact with the fire the deceased was using to cook in the room.
According to Asare, some properties of the station got destroyed in the process.
He indicated that the corpse was seen after fire engines from Davtraco Fire Service Command had moved to the scene to bring the situation under control.
Meanwhile, Divsion Officer (DO) II, William Blankson, Tema Regional Fire Service Operation Officer said investigation has commenced to identify the cause of the fire.
