The Techimantia Police Commander in the Tano South Municipality of the Ahafo Region, Superintendent Abraham Bansah and his men at the weekend fled for their lives after irate youth of the town violently descended on them.

According to MyNewsGh.com checks confirmed by the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command, the residents left Superintendent Abraham Bansah and a number of his subordinates with various degrees of injuries as a result of stones they pelted at them.

Disclosing to this portal what triggered the confusion, the police in the area revealed that they had a report that a 67-year-old farmer identified as Afua Fofie was strangled to death at her farm at a nearby bush at Techimantia.

Police went to the scene retrieved the body and deposited same at a mortuary in Bechem.

On the following day police had information that that a 27-year-old farmer Latif Baguama who is a farmhand of the deceased is suspected to be behind the murder.

When they visited his abode, he was not around but on hearing he was being sought after by the police he surrendered himself.

The youth of the town on seeing that he reported at the police station asked him to be released to them so they could kill him over the death of the 67-year-old woman.

When the police refused to oblige to their request, they massed up at the station and started pelting stones at personnel on duty literally turning their anger on the unprovoked cops.

Sensing danger, the police managed to relocate the suspect but before help could come the incensed youth vandalized their homes as well as their offices in search of the suspect.

A reinforcement was called in from Bechem but it did little until an armed reinforcement from Sunyani arrived to salvage the situation and relocated the suspect to the Regional Capital.

Injured Superintendent Abraham Bansah and others were later rushed to St John of God hospital at Duayaw Nkwanta where the police Chief was admitted.
