The Chief Executive Officer of L’homme Advocacy Network, a men’s rights group, Yaa Boatemaa Asafo Adjei, has said it was high time Ghana paid attention to the rights of men, which, she said, are equally important as the rights of women.

Ms Asafo was speaking on Family Zone on Class91.3FM on Saturday, 25 May 2019

She bemoaned the situation where the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection only focuses on issues women and children to the detriment of men.

Ms Asafo told show host Bishop Abraham Aidoo that: “Men’s rights are human rights, the voice of men are equally important, so, it is high time that the nation and society came together for the right of men.

“When we’re talking about the Gender ministry, it talks about male, female and kids, but all the time it is centered on women and the kids; this is where the inequality is and this organization is looking out to bring equality in our country”, she said.

She further explained that domestic violence against both men and women should be addressed equally, as men are also being abused in their relationships.

“Domestic violence, both on men and women, should be addressed equally. It is not that women’s lives are much important than that of the men. When you look around society, a lot of men are being abused. So, I want us to give an ear to the men.”

Ms Asafo also encouraged men to be bold enough to come out and speak about their relationships and marriages, as their lives matter, too.

She stated: “And I also want to encourage men to be bold enough and come out to speak about what they’re going through in their relationships as well as marriages because their lives are also important.
