BREAKING NEWS: NCA stuts down AGOO FM at Nkawkaw

The National Communication Authority (NCA) has shut down Agoo Fm a subsidiary of the EIB Network at Nkawkaw in Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region.

Several radio stations since last week have been shut by the NCA including Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom’s Ahomka Fm in Elmina, Radio XYZ and Radio Gold in Accra , Nananom FM, said to be owned by Asutifi South Member of Parliament (MP)  and a former Works and Housing Minister Collins Dauda; Genesis FM, owned by NDC stalwart and a former Council of State Member, Nana Adjei Ampofo – both in the Ahafo Regional Capital town of Goaso.

Former President John Dramani who waded into the development last week, expressed his discontent especially with the shut down of Radio Gold and XYZ indicating that it was politically motivated.

The NCA last closed down two Accra-based Radio Gold and Radio XYZ known to be affiliated to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Though the regulator has explained that its actions were purely grounded on regulatory breaches on the part of the stations for failure to renew their broadcasting licenses, former President Mahama believes strongly the high handed decision to close down the two stations was politically motivated.

“I believe that the role of a regulator is to build and not to destroy. So if they haven’t renewed their license, it’s your duty to remind them that you haven’t renewed your license. And eventually you must even give them a notice and deadlines…say if you don’t renew them by this date we will shut you down” he said.
