The Berekum Golden City Park, home of Ghana Premier League club, Berekum Chelsea, will be closed down by the Normalisation Committee after violence broke out before Chelsea’s home game against Kumasi Asante Kotoko in an NC Special game on Sunday.
Violent scenes marred the encounter, as several supporters, including officials of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, were left with crushed skulls after a clash involving opposing fans.
Kotoko’s policy analyst, Dr. Amo Sarpong, was drenched in blood after he was reportedly beaten up. He was said to have pulled a gun from his car and fired warning shots, which prompted attacks on him as he was beaten to pulp.
The NC, keen to crack down on hooliganism, has moved to act swiftly and will place a temporary ban on Chelsea’s home grounds, until investigations are complete.
A similar ban has been placed on the home grounds of another Brong Ahafo based club, Aduana Stars, whose game against Medeama was also littered with violent clashes.
The game between Chelsea and Kotoko ended goalless.
