Northern Regional Secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has dispatched relief items to the victims of the renewed communal clashes between Konkombas and Chorkosis in the North East Region.
The relief items included bowls, blankets, rice, cooking oil, mattresses, cups and mosquito nets to more than 2,000 gathered in camps.
The Northern Regional Coordinator of NADMO, Mr Abdulai Hindu, who disclosed these to the Ghanaian Times in an interview yesterday, said that the victims have started receiving the assistance.
The regional coordinator assured that relief items would get to all the victims.
Mr Hindu, asked the victims to bear with his officers, “stressing that everyone would be assisted,” and emphasised that the NADMO officials were working closely with the affected people.
About 2,780 people were displaced in the area as their homes were set ablaze in the gun battle that ensued between the two ethnic groups.
More than hundred houses were burnt in 22 communities in the heat of the violence, and about eight persons were reportedly killed in the gun battle.
But security personnel confirmed only three deaths.
Some of displaced people mostly women and children have fled across to neighbouring Togo.
