President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday, 18th on March 2019, witnessed the change of guard ceremony at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The ceremonial parade is an old tradition inherited from the British during the period of colonialism.

The ceremony, a quarterly event, is similar to that of the Buckingham Palace.

Monday’s ceremony was the 30th ceremonial change of guards since it was instituted. The new guard, a Ghana Air Force contingent made up of two (2) Officers and Forty Five (45) men, takes over guard duties  from the old guard, a Ghana Navy Contingent at the Jubilee House for the next three months.

The ceremony was also witnessed by the Chief of Staff, Madam Akosua Frema Opare, the Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, the Minister for Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, the Inspector General of Police, David Asante Apeatu, the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Obed Akwa, other Service Chiefs and top government functionaries.

Students and Pupils from the Oxford Kingdom International School, Tiny Gem School, Eno Kwakyewaa International School, Madina Senior High School, Sap’s School and Accra High School joined the President at the forecourt of the Jubilee House to witness the changeover.

Also witnessing the ceremony were members of the not-for-profit youth organization that aims at motivating, inspiring, educating, and informing to transform young girls  into great women of excellence, the Great Excellence Movement (GEM).

President Akufo Addo after taking the Departure Salute, exchanged pleasantries with the officers, Students, Pupils and other attendees who witnessed the ceremony.
