The Brong Ahafo regional Communications Officer of the opposition People’s National Convention (PNC), Mr. Abdul Samad Nurideen has predicted that the nation’s next general elections in 2020 will be tougher than the 2016 general polls.

He said, members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) who think John Mahama is not a threat to their victory in the upcoming polls may be deceiving themselves.

“It would be not easier for the NPP to retain power in 2020 following John Mahama’s election as presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the NPP executives are claiming” he told Akua Nyarko Abronoma, host of Dinpa Anopa Bosuo show on Monday.

Mr. Nurideen added that, eligible voters will compare the developmental projects and the growth of the economy under President Akuffo- Addo and then former President Mahama to decide on December 7.

“In 2020, President Akufo-Addo and ex-President Mahama would have had the benefit of running this country for four years each. Voters will, therefore, be in a unique position of comparing their actual records on the economy, education, health, agriculture, manufacturing, corruption and other important indicators”. He observed.

“Of course elections focus on promises captured in manifestoes and no doubt each of the two candidates would be making promises. But those promises would have to be anchored in their respective records against earlier promises to test the credibility of those promises”. Mr. Nurideen stated.

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it will be easier to retain power in 2020 following John Mahama’s election as presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking in an interview, Vice Chairman of the NPP, Michael Omari Wadie, said the party is losing no sleep over Mahama.

According to him, the former president’s election as NDC flagbearer rather gives the NPP hope of winning the 2020 election.

But Abdul Samad Nurideen noted that, the attributes given to Nana Akuffo Addo prior to the 2016 elections by the members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) seems to suggest that he could never be President but it reversed.

Adding that, the NPP are also giving same attributes to Mr. Mahama, saying “Mahama will never be President again ” which he thinks Ghanaians are more discerning than politicians think.

He admonished members of the ruling NPP and the opposition NDC to focus on a life changing message for Ghanaians in 2020 rather than attacking individual candidates of their opponents .
