An amount of GHS750 million is needed for the implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) law in five years once passed, a report by the Research Department of Parliament in 2017 has estimated.
The amount involves the setting up of an RTI Commission, funding for boards, administrative expenses, district administrative expenses, district office facilities and a head office.
An estimated GHS 651,968.22 will be needed in the first year for the cost of administrative staff at the head office while the cost for district office staff is estimated to be GHS 91 million.
The amounts will reduce from 2018 to 2021.
About 323 direct public sector jobs are expected to be created through the implementation of the RTI.
The bill has spent nearly two decades before parliament. It was first drafted in 1999.
