Crystal Palace push to secure English-Ghanaian defender Josh Acheampong on loan

Crystal Palace is making plans to strengthen its squad with young talent, and Chelsea’s Josh Acheampong is firmly on their radar.

Palace has reportedly asked about taking the 19-year-old defender on loan, aiming to give him the regular first-team action he’s been looking for. Acheampong, who signed his first professional contract with Chelsea on 3 January 2024, is seen as one of the most promising young defenders in the Blues’ system.

He made his senior debut against FC Astana in the UEFA Conference League on 12 December 2024 and has since made only one appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Crystal Palace believe Acheampong could follow in the footsteps of other successful young loanees, with the potential to develop under their guidance and contribute immediately.

According to The Telegraph, Palace sees this as a win-win, offering vital experience for the player while boosting their own defensive options.

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca, however, has expressed his intention to keep the youngster at Stamford Bridge, showing how highly he rates him.
