Somber mood as NPP sympathisers gather at Ernest Kumi’s residence

A number of sympathisers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and well-wishers have gathered at the residence of the late Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Kumi, following news of his passing on Monday, July 7, 2025.

A video shared by Channel News on X captured the somber mood, showing mourners seated at the entrance of the MP’s Akyem Wenchi residence.

The caption read, “Scores of party sympathisers and loved ones have gathered at the Akyem Wenchi residence of the late MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi, following the heartbreaking news of his passing this morning. A somber atmosphere as the community comes together to grieve and support the bereaved family.”

Affectionately known as the “Akwatia Star Boy,” Ernest Kumi was a first-time legislator whose political rise had drawn national attention.

He had recently made headlines due to legal challenges surrounding his election victory.
