Texas Floods: Rescue Efforts Intensify as 27 Girls Still Missing from Summer Camp

As Texas wakes up to the aftermath of devastating flash floods that swept through central parts of the state early Friday morning, rescue efforts continue in earnest. At least 51 people have been confirmed dead, including 15 children, as emergency services work around the clock to locate the missing.

Kerr County, the hardest-hit area, has become the focus of the massive rescue operation. Sheriff Larry Leitha issued a solemn promise:

“The work continues, and will continue, until everyone is found.”

Among the most urgent priorities is the search at Camp Mystic, a popular all-girls’ Christian summer camp situated along the Guadalupe River. The camp was struck by a sudden surge of water in the early hours, leaving 27 girls still unaccounted for.

Hundreds of first responders—including local law enforcement, the National Guard, and volunteers—have been deployed across the flood zone. Swift water rescue teams, helicopters, and drones are being used to navigate difficult terrain and rising water levels.

The situation remains critical as authorities brace for more rain forecast over the weekend. Families of the missing continue to gather at makeshift shelters and reunification centers, hoping for good news.

Officials are urging residents to stay clear of flooded areas and to follow evacuation orders. The Texas Emergency Management Agency is expected to provide a full briefing later today.
