Afigya Kwabre South MCE’s Residence Attacked in Suspected Arson, Police Investigate

The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has reportedly launched an investigation into a violent attack on the official residence of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Afigya Kwabre South, Pearl Ankrah. The incident, which occurred on June 21, 2025, saw parts of the residence engulfed in flames, causing extensive damage. Authorities suspect the attack was an act of arson perpetrated by unknown assailants.
According to a report by asaaseradio.com on June 23, 2025, local residents have linked the incident to Ms. Ankrah’s rejection by a faction of local supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). This opposition reportedly stems from her endorsement by President John Dramani Mahama.
The report further indicates that two suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident and are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. The police have officially classified the attack as arson.
Fortunately, there were no casualties reported, as Ms. Ankrah was reportedly not at home at the time of the attack.
It is recalled that Ms. Ankrah’s nomination as MCE had previously sparked controversy among disgruntled local party members. These members accused her of failing to establish strong relationships with grassroots supporters within the constituency. As far back as two months ago, a faction of the constituency had organized an open protest, vehemently opposing her appointment and even threatening to burn down the assembly block.
The ongoing police investigation aims to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this alarming incident and bring those responsible to justice.
