Building Collapse at London Bridge, Cape Coast, Leaves One Dead Amid Torrential Rains

A tragic building collapse at London Bridge, a densely populated neighborhood in Cape Coast, has claimed the life of an elderly woman following hours of relentless rainfall.
The aged structure, reportedly built decades ago, crumbled during the downpour, prompting urgent rescue efforts. Personnel from the Ghana Police Service, National Ambulance Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have been deployed to the scene, where they are working tirelessly to search for survivors feared trapped under the debris.
A video shared on X (formerly Twitter) shows emergency responders digging through the rubble as concerned onlookers gather nearby. The collapse has sparked renewed concerns over the structural integrity of older buildings in the city, particularly as the rainy season intensifies.
The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly has yet to issue an official statement. However, local authorities are advising residents living in similarly aged buildings to relocate to safer accommodations as a precaution.
