Driver invokes deadly Antoa curse on police officer over alleged GH¢150 extortion

A furious commercial driver has gone viral after invoking deadly curses on a police officer he accused of unlawfully extorting GH¢150 from him at a traffic checkpoint.

In a widely circulated video on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the visibly agitated driver is seen sitting in a roadside gutter as he fervently calls upon the dreaded Ashanti deity, Antoa Nyama, to exact vengeance on the police officer.

According to the driver, he had not violated any traffic regulation and was unfairly targeted and forced to part with money without justification. He insisted that he was determined to seek spiritual justice, hence his dramatic appeal to Antoa.

“I summon you, Antoa Nyama, to appear in this gutter and waste the life of the police officer who extorted money from me,” the man is heard saying in Twi. “Let him never prosper. Take his life and add that of his wife, children, and any family member who benefits from the money.”

His emotionally charged plea included threats of public disgrace to the deity if it failed to act on his request, adding, “If you don’t kill this police officer, then everyone will know you’re powerless.”

The video has sparked a wave of reactions online, with many netizens expressing concern over both the alleged police misconduct and the severity of the driver’s invocation.

The video has reignited longstanding debates about alleged extortion by traffic officers and the desperate lengths to which some victims may go to seek justice.

Antoa Nyama is a well-known river deity in the Ashanti Region, often invoked in matters of revenge and justice. Curses involving the deity are taken seriously in many parts of the country due to the widespread belief in its spiritual potency.
