Kumawu MP directs GES to investigate video of teachers fighting

The Member of Parliament for Kumawu, Ernest Yaw Anim, has condemned a recent incident at a school in Pepease in the Kumawu constituency, where two male teachers were captured in viral videos engaging in a physical altercation.

In the video, the two teachers were seen engaged in a heated fight inside a classroom, in full view of students, while lessons were ongoing.

Reacting to the incident in an official statement shared on his Facebook page on Friday, June 20, 2025, Anim gave the assertion that the altercation between the two male teachers arose from a dispute involving a female colleague.

According to him, such incidents are unacceptable, describing them as “unprofessional and a disgrace to the teaching profession.”

“I have taken note of the disturbing incident that occurred at a school in Pepease, where two male teachers were involved in a physical altercation over a female colleague. I wish to state unequivocally that such behavior is highly unacceptable, unprofessional, and a disgrace to the teaching profession.

“As a Member of Parliament, I hold our educators in the highest regard and expect them to exhibit discipline, maturity, and a strong moral compass at all times. That two teachers allowed a personal disagreement to degenerate into violence on school premises is deeply disappointing and reflects a gross lack of self-control,” portions of the lawmaker’s statement read.

The statement also directed the Ghana Education Service to launch an immediate investigation into the matter and sanction those involved.

It further indicated that the actions had tarnished the image of the school where the incident occurred.

“This shameful episode not only brings disrepute to the school and the wider educational community but also undermines the authority and respect that teachers are meant to embody. If our educators cannot model responsible behavior, we risk sending the wrong message to the very students they are meant to guide and inspire,” it said.

The statement added, “I therefore call on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to launch an immediate investigation into the matter and apply appropriate sanctions where necessary. Acts of indiscipline within our schools must be addressed decisively to preserve the sanctity and integrity of our learning environments.”

The lawmaker also urged the school to prioritise the welfare of the students by providing treatment and support to those who may have been traumatized by the incident.

“I also urge the school’s administration to offer psychological support and counseling to students who may have been traumatized by the incident, ensuring that their emotional and mental well-being is not neglected. We must work together to uphold professionalism and order within our schools. Our educators must be shining examples, individuals our children can look up to, not fear or question,” the statement ended.
