End of an Era: Garage Lounge and Sans Frontiers to Close Their Doors

Accra’s vibrant nightlife scene is abuzz with mixed reactions following the surprising announcement that popular hotspots Garage Lounge and Sans Frontiers will cease operations on June 29, 2025.
Garage Lounge, a staple in East Legon for five and a half years, made the announcement on its Instagram page on June 19, 2025, much to the dismay of its loyal patrons. This news comes amid recent FBI raids targeting businessmen in connection with a $100 million fraud, though no direct link to the closures has been stated.
A Nightlife Legacy
Nestled in the heart of East Legon, Garage Lounge quickly rose to prominence as a premier destination for nightlife enthusiasts. It was renowned for its electric atmosphere, diverse music selection, and eclectic crowd, solidifying its place as a weekend and event hotspot.
In their farewell statement, the Garage team expressed deep gratitude to their patrons, performers, and staff, acknowledging their unwavering support throughout the years. They described their journey as more than just a business, calling it “a movement that helped shape Accra’s nightlife culture.”
“After 5 & ½ incredible years, Garage is closing its doors for the final time. What started as a bold idea turned into a movement, a place where Accra came alive with music, flavour, culture, and unforgettable memories. We’ve hosted thousands of nights, countless cheers, and built a community we’ll never forget,” the statement read. “To everyone who ever danced, drank, celebrated, worked, performed, or found themselves at Garage, thank you. You made it what it was. This isn’t goodbye forever — just the end of this chapter. Our final night will be Sunday, June 29, 2025. Join us one last time. We came. We saw. We conquered.”
Social Media Reacts
While the reasons for the closure remain unstated, social media has been flooded with a wave of reactions. Many expressed shock and disappointment, while others took the opportunity to reminisce and celebrate the club’s significant legacy.
David Mensah, a well-known music executive, brand influencer, and entrepreneur, applauded the Garage team for curating such a unique experience. “You all truly made the nightlife unforgettable, with an amazing atmosphere, lively energy, and fantastic music. It’s always a pleasure to be at Garage, whether for collaboration or simply to have a great time! Will miss my stage seat,” he shared on Instagram.
Another social media user lauded Garage’s profound influence on Ghana’s nightlife and hospitality sector, vowing to attend the final party: “Y’all really played a major role, or were the main role, in the nightlife & hospitality industry. 29th diɛr, we dey detty body.”
Even from afar, the impact of Garage Lounge was felt. Browniehen, a New York-based bartender and bottle host, shared her fond memories, writing, “So happy I got a chance to visit Garage. Some of the most memorable nights were there.”
As the final closing date approaches, it’s clear that Garage Lounge, and presumably Sans Frontiers, will leave a significant void in Accra’s entertainment landscape, but their impact on the city’s vibrant nightlife will undoubtedly be remembered.

I hear say m GARAGE was an FBI decoy designed to hunt down the big boys in Accra and they closed it down once it served its intended use.

Accra’s nightlife scene has lost a crown jewel with the closure of @garage_ghana , one of the city’s most vibrant open-air bars. For five years, this place was the go-to for crazy vibes and next-level parties.
Garage was actually a place where DJs, MCs, and artists came to… https://t.co/V7zeP8ww2s pic.twitter.com/e3OEud64Db
