Tetteh Quarshie Interchange and Tema Motorway to See Lane Reductions for Four Months

Motorists using the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange and sections of the Accra-Tema Motorway are advised to brace for temporary traffic disruptions starting this Sunday, June 22, 2025. The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has announced a significant lane reduction as part of ongoing expansion work on the Accra-Tema Motorway and Extensions Project.

In a press release dated June 19, 2025, the GHA, acting on behalf of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, detailed the upcoming traffic management arrangements. The disruption is a necessary step to facilitate the construction of a central pier for the expansion of the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange Bridge.

Specifically, the number of lanes on the North-South bound carriageway (Madina to Accra direction) and vice versa will be temporarily reduced from four (4) lanes to three (3).

This adjustment is set to begin on Sunday, June 22, 2025, and is expected to last for approximately four months. The GHA emphasized that this lane reduction is crucial to “provide safe working space for construction personnel and to ensure the continued safety of all road users.”

The Authority is urging motorists to exercise caution, strictly follow directional signs, and cooperate with traffic management officials throughout the duration of the construction work. Commuters should anticipate potential traffic congestion on this major route and plan their journeys accordingly.
