British Boxing Board Raises Concerns Over Sharaf Mahama’s “Battle of the Beasts” Event

The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has received a formal communication from the British Boxing Board of Control, expressing concerns regarding Sharaf Mahama’s recently concluded boxing event, “Battle of the Beasts.”
According to Mohammed Amin Lamptey, Communications Director of the GBA, the content of the email calls for immediate intervention from Ghana’s sports minister and the National Sports Authority (NSA) to enhance the regulation of boxing promoters’ activities within the country.
This development follows the successful staging of Sharaf Mahama’s “Battle of the Beasts” event, which drew considerable attention within the international boxing community. The event showcased compelling bouts, including a highly anticipated clash between Jacob “The Beast” Dickson and Andrew Tabiti for the WBO Africa Bridgerweight title, as well as Daniel Selassie Gorsh versus Theo Allotey in the African Bantamweight division.
The tournament also boasted the presence of international boxing luminaries Anthony Joshua and Amir Khan, whose attendance lent significant credibility and excitement to the proceedings. Joshua himself praised the event, remarking, “It’s a step in the right direction, and I hope to see more of this.”
However, the concerns raised by the British Boxing Board of Control indicate potential issues that may require the Ghana Boxing Authority, the Minister for Youth and Sports, and the National Sports Authority to collaborate closely. Such cooperation would be crucial to address any regulatory gaps and ensure full compliance with international boxing standards and regulations for future events. This incident highlights the growing international scrutiny and the need for robust oversight within Ghana’s burgeoning professional boxing scene.
