Asante Kotoko Striker Kwame Opoku Downplays Star Role, Focuses on Club’s Success

Asante Kotoko’s prolific striker, Kwame Opoku, has expressed his unwavering commitment to always give his best for the club, despite receiving widespread acclaim for his recent performances.
The forward rejoined the Porcupine Warriors midway through the 2024/25 football season and quickly became a pivotal player. His impact was particularly felt in the MTN FA Cup final on Sunday, where he netted both goals to single-handedly propel Kotoko to clinch the coveted trophy against Golden Kick.
Opoku also made a significant impression in the Ghana Premier League, where he registered nine goals and two assists in just 17 appearances. By the end of the football season, many fans had lauded the striker as the main man for the Asante Kotoko side.
Speaking to 3Sports after the FA Cup final, Kwame Opoku expressed appreciation for the numerous praises he has received but humbly insisted he is simply doing his job and does not consider himself a special player.
“I see myself like I’m just a normal player that I have to help my club, so it’s not anything special,” Opoku stated. He further added, “If I started the league, maybe I would have done better.”
Kwame Opoku’s consistent performance and goal-scoring prowess indicate he will undoubtedly be a crucial player for Asante Kotoko in the upcoming season, particularly as they prepare for their campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup.
