Ghanaian Journalist Kofi Adoma Nwanwani Questioned by US Army Over Controversial Video

Prominent Ghanaian journalist Kofi Adoma Nwanwani has disclosed that he was recently interrogated by the US Army in connection with a contentious video featuring the currently imprisoned officer, Major Kojo Owusu Dartey. The video, widely disseminated on Adoma’s “Kofi TV” platform, purportedly shows Major Dartey brandishing a firearm during an interview conducted some years ago.
Adoma, who is still recuperating from a severe eye injury sustained in an unrelated shooting incident, revealed his appearance before a court-martial panel concerning a “new complaint” against Major Dartey. This disclosure has ignited significant public debate, largely due to the serious nature of the alleged incident depicted in the footage.
A report by EDHUB on X, dated June 13, indicated that the US Army panel presented Adoma with a specific segment of the notorious interview. This portion reportedly highlighted the precise moment where Major Dartey is alleged to have brandished a firearm – an action considered a grave violation of military conduct regulations.
Major Kojo Owusu Dartey was previously sentenced in February 2025 to 70 months in prison. His conviction stemmed from various charges, including smuggling firearms to Ghana and involvement in a marriage fraud scheme. Adoma’s recent testimony before the court-martial panel suggests that the US Army is continuing to probe aspects of Major Dartey’s past conduct, even for incidents that occurred prior to his imprisonment. It was also noted that Major Dartey’s wife had submitted the video footage and filed a separate complaint, accusing him of assault.
However, Adoma stated that his testimony and the subsequent findings of the panel ultimately cleared Major Dartey of the specific charges directly related to the public display of the weapon as a military officer. Nevertheless, the fact that the US Army sought out the Ghanaian journalist for questioning underscores the stringent approach they adopt towards potential breaches of conduct by their personnel, irrespective of their current incarceration status. The incident highlights the meticulous nature of military justice and its reach across international boundaries when concerning its own service members.

Now 42, Major Dartey also faces three years of supervised release for his crimes.
