Lands C’ssion chases fake surveyors

The Lands Commission has renewed and strengthened its partnership with the Licensed Surveyors Association of Ghana (LISAG) in a bid to foster effective collaboration aimed at ensuring optimum service delivery to the public.

The move is also expected to help weed out fake surveyors whose activities over the years have led to a rise in land litigation which has resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property.

At a meeting between the Lands Commission and over 100 licensed surveyors in Accra on Friday, 14 June 2018, both parties agreed to the enforcement of strict licensing regimes among others, to help rid the system of fake surveyors.

Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission, Dr Wilfred Anim-Odame told Class News after the meeting that “henceforth they will apply sanctions to surveyors who practise without reference to the guidelines and the standards, so, we are going to enforce the rules that govern surveying and mapping in the country and they have agreed that going forward we should not allow quack persons to act as surveyors”.

He said every licensed surveyor is required to have his equipment and tools tested and calibrated by the Lands Commission in order to have accurate maps.

Meanwhile, President of the Licensed Surveyors Association of Ghana (LISAG), Kwame Tenadu, tells Class News the Association is confident the renewed collaboration will be of immense benefit to not just to the parties involved but Ghana as a whole.
