Central North Police Command arrests 42 persons involved in drug peddling and prostitution

The Central North Regional Police Command’s Special Taskforce, led by DCOP Abraham Acquaye, has arrested 42 suspects in connection with drug peddling and prostitution.

The suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led operation in Ayamfuri, in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region, on April 16, 2025.

Speaking at a press conference, the Regional Commander, DCOP Abraham Acquaye, indicated that the operation, conducted between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., targeted high-risk criminal zones within the area.

The arrested individuals included 32 female foreign nationals aged between 22 and 32, and 10 Ghanaian males aged between 20 and 31.

The arrests were made at two separate brothels and ghettos, where the suspects were allegedly engaged in illicit activities.

During the exercise, the police confiscated quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, concoctions believed to be laced with Indian hemp, condoms, and cigarettes.

Some of the arrested persons told the police that they were victims of human trafficking.

According to them, they were promised legitimate jobs but were coerced into prostitution upon arrival.

Meanwhile, the police are expected to hand the foreign nationals over to the Ghana Immigration Service for further investigation and appropriate action. The 10 Ghanaian male suspects will be screened, and those found culpable will face prosecution.
