The Abudu royal family of Dagbon in the Northern Region has successfully completed the two-week rituals in relation to the funeral of the late Ya Na Mahamadu Abdulai IV, which were conducted in line with the guidelines of the Committee of Eminent Chiefs led by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

This will be followed by the funeral of the late Ya Na Abdulai Yakubu Andani II in early January 2019.

The Andani royal family is expected to commence the process on 4 January 2019 and end on 18 January 2019 before the next Ya Na will be nominated and enskinned by the kingmakers.

Before the Islamic ceremony to climax the funeral at the Gbewaa Palace on Friday, 28 December 2018, the family performed an integral ritual known as the ‘Logri Bobbu’.

During the execution of the ritual, the Regent of Dagbon, Bolin-lana Mahamadu Abdulai and some chiefs took part in a horse-riding procession around the sacred house (Katini Duu) three times.

It was to signify that the Regent was performing his father’s funeral.

Ya Na Mahamadu Abdulai IV died on 15 October 1988.

He was the 35th Ya Na of the Dagbon state.

He married fifteen wives and had fourteen children with the Bolin-lana being the first surviving son.
